Beating Hearts

This half term, Year Six have been studying the Circulatory System as part of their Science unit of work.

The children have learned about how blood travels around the body in order to transport Oxygen to keep us alive. They have studied the different blood vessels and written the journey of a red blood cell.  Last week, the children looked at the different parts of the lungs and labelled a diagram. This afternoon, the children were able to experience seeing a real lamb’s heart. They enjoyed holding, touching and finding out about the different parts. There was lots of excitement – and blood! Most of the children were very keen to poke their fingers into the different valves and squeeze the heart so that they had an idea of how it worked to pump the blood. A very interesting Science lesson indeed!
