This week in Reception, the children have been learning about people who help us. After reading, ‘When We Grow Up’ by Melanie Walsh, the children thought about the people in their community who help them, for example, dentists, doctors, shop assistants and postal workers. They also had the opportunity to talk about what they would like to be when they grow up.
We were fortunate enough to have a visit from Donna, our lunch time assistant and school crossing patrol. She spoke to the children about keeping safe next to roads and gave us some information about how she helps children and adults to cross busy roads safely before and after school.
Later on in the week, we had a virtual visit from Postie Megan, organised through The Postal Museum. The virtual visit was based on the story ‘The Jolly Postman’ by Allan Ahlberg. The story follows the Jolly Postman who delivers letters and parcels to characters from traditional tales. The children enjoyed guessing which story each character had come from and interacted with Postie Megan to deliver all of the letters to the correct characters- they did find it scary dropping off the cauldron parcel at the Witch’s house but they quickly rode their bicycles away to drop off a letter to The Three Bears.
