Book Club

Reading for pleasure and promoting a life-long love of books is a key aim of the school’s curriculum and, this half-term, Mr Allen has run an after-school book club where children have read and discussed a book together each Thursday.

The book that was chose was ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ by Michael Morpurgo. The children watched the book trailer first and were excited to find out what happened when the boy went on the boat and who Kensuke was.

Over the weeks, the children have read, drawn pictures and discussed events in school and have done some reading at home too. It has been lovely to see the interest and engagement of the children and ‘Book Club’ has been a real highlight of  the week – especially as we had cookies and juice each week. At the end of the club, the children were all eager to find out what would happen in the rest of the story and have taken the book home to read further.
