This week, Year One wanted to investigate which material would be the strongest material to build a house for The Three Little Pigs.
Firstly, we read the story of The Three Little Pigs and were very excited that we could pretend to be the Big Bad Wolf! After we read the story, everyone made a prediction of which material would be the strongest. Some children thought straw, others thought sticks and others thought bricks. Then, the children used a fan or a whiteboard to see which material was the strongest and did not move when it was blown by the Big Bad Wolf. Some of us even had a go at blowing the objects over – it was very tiring! The children tested the straw first. It blew everywhere! Then the children tested the sticks and they blew across the tray. Lastly, the children tested the brick and it did not move. The children could explain that the brick was the strongest material. They recorded their results in a table and ranked the materials from strongest to weakest. Some of us then wrote a sentence explaining why the brick would be the best material. We had so much fun!
