Combining Cubism and Realism in Portraits

Over the last couple of weeks the children in Year 6 have studied different artists and styles of portraits and have then incorporated this learning into a final piece.

The children have appreciated artwork by Pablo Picasso and have discussed his Cubist style of geometric shapes and abstract features within a portrait. They then did some workshops online about realism in drawing and how to sketch eyes using light and tone.

For their final piece, they combined these elements and create a Cubist, collage style background and then overlaid realistic features on top. They were really proud of their end results and were able to see that everyone could be an artist.
