This week, we have celebrated world Book Day in school. Part of this celebration, was about looking at new books that the children might like and the teachers being able to offer some advice about authors and the latest books in the shops. With money from their sponsored read, the children are going to be able to choose some new books for different areas in the school. It is easy to keep reading the old favourites and books by a familiar author – but there are always new, brilliant books being published.
Age 3-6: The Only Monster: Monster A little monster gets sad that she doesn’t have any siblings until Dad reassures her that families are measured by love and not numbers. A great book to talk about different families with some fantastic illustrations.
Age 6-9: Solving Crimes is NOT my Superpower: In a town full of people with powers, will Sara ever find her superpower? Solving the mystery of the stolen football trophy might help. The first in a hilarious series for young readers. A brand new book that teaches a valuable lesson that everybody has a superpower inside of them.
Age 8+: The Day My School Got Famous. Ferris’s new foster brother is a tornado of chaos, but when their school is closed down, can the foster brothers work together? Funny and moving, and packed with comic strips and cartoons. A great book in the comic style of ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid.’
