The Tunnel

This week in English, Year Two have started their new book for this half term. They received a parcel and a letter and were very excited to discover what was inside.

First, they read the letter which explained that they needed to unwrap each layer of their parcel to discover clues that would tell them what their new book would be. As they unwrapped each layer, they revealed more and more of the front cover. The children made predictions about what their new book might be about. At first, the boys and girls thought that their new story might be a traditional tale such as Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty or Little Red Riding Hood.

Later, as more of the image was revealed, they started to predict that the story might be similar to Alice in Wonderland and involve exploring a magical world.

Next, the children started to explore the different characters in the book. They compared what their personalities and interests were like and identified that they are different from each other.  Year Two also explored the settings of the book and identified vocabulary to describe the quiet wood compared the gloomy forest. They are very excited to see what will happen next in the story.
