World Book Day 2025

World Book Day is  an annual celebration of authors, illustrators, books and the joy of reading. It encourages children and families to find the fun and enjoyment in reading because reading for pleasure changes lives.

At Harlow Green, World Book Day is one of the highlights of the academic year. Children and staff alike can’t wait to don their costumes and come to school as a character forma book. Everybody has great fun trying to guess who the costumes are and seeing the effort that has been put into becoming a character. We would like to thank the parents for supporting this as some of the costumes must have taken hours to prepare1

Throughout the school, there was a real buzz as the children continued work they had started during the visit from Liz Million – producing character designs using potato, taco and doorway shapes and using these in their own storyboards and comics. Some of the real potato characters in Year 4 were absolutely amazing to see.

It was lovely to hear the character battles going on across the school – with children trying to defend their character in oral battles to decide the ‘Ultimate Character Champion.’

Reading is such a vital life-skill, and seeing the whole school come together to celebrate a love of characters, books and reading is an extremely powerful statement of the priority it has in Harlow Green.
