This week, in maths the boys and girls have started a new unit focusing on mass and capacity. To start, they had the chance to hold and compare a range of weights so they could get a feel for difference between grams and kilograms. The children then worked together in pairs to explore the mass of classroom objects using balance scales. They first began by looking at the different classroom objects such as pencils, whiteboard pens and scissors and estimating how much they think each object will weigh. The children then used to the balance scales to find out the mass of the objects, using grams as their unit of measurement, and to see if their estimations were correct.
