On Wednesday evening, 46 brave children from Years 5 and 6 took part in the Gateshead School Sports Partnership Dance Festival at The Glasshouse International Centre for Music (The Sage) in Gateshead.
This is a huge annual event in Gateshead with hundreds of children taking part across 5 events over two days. The theme this year was ‘Respect’ which we flipped on its head and said – what would you do if someone disrespected you? Our song choices – ‘Gravity’, ‘Break Free’ and ‘Free’ reflected the fact our children are encouraged to develop accountability, freedom of choice, strength to challenge and courage to walk away.
This year was especially challenging as the children opened the show – on stage first! We had a fantastic time – the children were superb after weeks of rehearsals and their behaviour on the night exemplary……and after a very late finish, they made it into school the next day! As soon as they finished, all they wanted to do was do it again.
We don’t hold any auditions for this and any children from Years 5 and 6 can come along, many whom have never danced before, yet here they are up on the stage in front of a packed house at such a huge venue.
Well done to all, you smashed it, and thanks to the friends and family who came along to cheer and clap!
