In Reception this week, we have been learning about Mothering Sunday, the Christian celebration that follows the end of lent. The children listened to the story ‘My Mum Is Fantastic’ by Nick Butterworth and we spoke about our mums or mother figures. As a class, we discussed different reasons why our mums are fantastic- some children said because their mummy makes them their favourite foods and some children said because their mummy gives the best cuddles. We explored different ways to celebrate our mothers, for example, giving our mothers flowers, making them breakfast in bed, or even making them a card. In Reception, we decided to make our own Mother’s Day cards. First, the children colour-washed a sky for the background. Then, once it was all dry, they painted some spring flowers on top. We wrote a message inside the card wishing our mums a happy Mother’s Day.
We hope all of the mothers and others have an enjoyable Sunday!
