In Art this term, we are looking at how abstract you can make an image before you can’t understand what it is.
To help with this, we look at a range of artists from Deborah Roberts and her collage images to Pablo Picasso and Francoise Gilot.
We have started today by sketching using just shapes – breaking an image down into the key shapes it has, then adding in contours and curves to make it more realistic. We will move on to collage and creating our own abstract images of our faces using a range of coloured and black and white photographs.
It is always nice to see the children develop their art and take more time and care with their sketching and design, learning ways to add realism to their work. Using collage also adds a new dimension to art so they appreciate different mediums and methods of creating art.
