Over the last half-term, the children in Year 6 have been learning various skills in gymnastics. In the final two weeks, they combined these into group routines.
We started by looking at routines by Olympic gymnasts and breaking thee down into the performance elements of travelling, jumps, landings, rolls and balances. We then focussed on each of these skills and tried to transfer some of them from the floor to the apparatus.
In the final two weeks, children worked in groups to choreograph their own routines to a soundtrack titled ‘Time For War.’ The children were encouraged to think about the dynamics of the music and also the spirit of the track as they added their own dance moves too.
