Reception children are really building in confidence in our Forest School, it is clear to see their growing independence when they are given a free play session. They were taken out in small groups so that they had plenty of adult support if they needed it. They had lots of fun playing on the swings and dens put up by Year 6, they experienced the wild mud kitchen, collecting smelly plants to make potions. These initial sessions establish physical and behavioural boundaries as well as allowing initial observations on which to base future sessions and development.
Principle 1: Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment, rather than a one-off visit. Planning, adaptation, observations and reviewing are integral elements of Forest School.
