This term our topic in Year One is “We’re all going on a summer holiday.” The children have enjoyed talking about their trips to the seaside and how they like building sandcastles on the beach and eating fish and chips. The pupils have also had the opportunity to learn about seaside holidays in the past. They learnt that families travelled to the seaside by train, enjoyed watching Punch and Judy shows on the beach and even had donkey rides, just like today. In particular we researched seaside holidays in Victorian times. Back then they used to get changed in a bathing hut which a horse would pull out into the sea. Did you know that Queen Victoria even had her own personal bathing hut? Take a look at the amazing bathing huts we made. We even added wheels, a door and a ladder.
