We may only have a small woodland but look what we can do with it! Year 1 are building on their relationship with nature through independent play. By learning to love and respect our natural world we encourage the children to want to protect it. First a flash challenge to find any spiky things. The children found holly, blackthorn and dog roses, some thistles and of course nettles. We talked about the why we let plants like this grow in our Forest School and how, as humans, we interact with plants like this. Each week the children show more confidence, they moved about mindfully, supporting each other. Some children returned to previous areas of play, others tried something new. Working in the same place but with different people can also bring other ideas and skills into play.
