What a fantastic day we’ve had celebrating The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The children began their day by learning about events in the Queen’s life and placing these on a timeline. Learning things like the fact that the Queen was married and had two children before she became the Queen surprised some of the children. The children looked at the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in more detail and they all agreed that the procession with her in a golden carriage was impressive. At lunch time, the whole school went outside for our street party. The children all enjoyed having their lunch outside despite a little bit of rain. During our lunch, entertainment was provided by our own choir, some opera singers, the Singing Hinnies and giant stilt walkers. As well as the entertainment, the ice cream van paid us a visit and we all enjoyed an ice cream. After lunch, the children looked at work by the artist Cath Riley and created some portraits combining this style with cubism. Later in the day, we played a selection of traditional games including hook a duck, a coconut shy and a tin can alley; they were all great fun.
