Year 6 wasted no time getting back out into the Forest School this week. Miss Rowe asked them to investigate any changes across the site and then they worked together to set up some new areas and make any necessary repairs.
During the holidays our tree surgeons removed a large lime tree from the grounds at the front of school, so we have some new logs that will be used for a tool station, the willow circle and to replace any damaged ones in the fire pit.
Encouraging the children to see how natural resources can be used to our advantage is so important. That single tree has provided new seating, new work areas, den material, helped us to keep the site safe and prevent erosion. As time goes on and the wood decomposes so it will provide shelter and sustenance to insects and wildlife. The circle of life in action.
Principle 1: Forest School is a long-term process of frequent and regular sessions in a woodland or natural environment, rather than a one-off visit. Planning, adaptation, observations and reviewing are integral elements of Forest School.
