The focus for the past two weeks has been on light and dark and day and night. We have listened to ‘Can’t you sleep, little bear?, ‘Sleep tight, little bear’ and ‘Night Monkey, Day Monkey’. This has resulted in the children discussing whether it is light or dark in our bear cave and how they could light up our bear cave. This has also led to the children creating tea light holders using clay and decorating them with paint, glitter and sequins once they dried. The children also sorted activities into morning and night time i.e. when they listen to a story and identified their favourite activity to do during the day and on a night time. Lots of the children also experimented with making shadows using the shadow puppets and a torch as well as chalk outside. Lots of children also made stars using yellow glittery playdough and star cutters and tried to make their own bear cave using a range of boxes. The children also learned what diurnal and nocturnal means, classified some animals into those two groups and made a telescope to look for animals outside.
