Our Forest School wanted to honour Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth by taking part in the The Queen’s Green Canopy, this project is proud to be creating a living legacy with over a million trees planted in Her Majesty’s name across the nation during the first planting season, October 2021 to March 2022. Dominic Laydon, the horticulturalist and Forest School Leader, who has designed the Platinum Parterre garden we have planted at Angel Court Care home, came in to help.
We received our 15 trees, 5 crab apple, 5 rowan and 5 hazel and set about deciding where the best locations for planting would be. The crab apples and rowan have been planted on the hill at the front of our school where they can be seen by passers by and any one visiting, whereas the hazel, which will eventually be used in many forest school activities, was planted near our willow circle, a good location where we can harvest it once the trees become more established.
Principle 2: Forest School takes place in a woodland or natural wooded environment to support the development of a relationship between the learner and the natural world.
