This week, the Year One children started their Design and Technology block, with a focus on weaving. Our project is to design, make and evaluate a table mat. The week started with conducting some research about table mats. The children were able to look at table mats and say what materials they thought they were made from and what their purpose was. The pupils learnt that a table mat is used to protect a table from getting food or heat stains. Some of the children said that they have table mats at home on their dining table. Next we all had a go at weaving and went outside to weave ribbon and fabric through the MUGA fence. This was very tricky but so much fun! The children soon learnt to go in and out, and then out and in to make a pattern. Then we had a go at weaving some felt. It was tricky but we persevered. We are very excited to design, make and evaluate our very own animal shaped table mats. Take a look at our amazing weaving skills so far!
