Construction will be the main theme across year groups during our Forest School sessions this term. Construction covers a huge breadth of activities, so the children will be encouraged to build using all sorts of materials. From wood and clay, sticks and stones, words and music, stories and song, a huge wealth of inspiration is there for the taking. The children are encouraged to think outside the predictable, to take their constructions to the next level and to push outside their comfort zones. Using their imaginations to repurpose objects, opening their minds to what is possible and even what may seem impossible.
Sessions like this encourage the children to be experimental, some children throw themselves into the unknown straight away, others may begin with the familiar and elaborate from there. This week for inspiration they could choose a spirit animal card which created a focus, do all ladybirds want a bug hotel? Or would they fancy having their own trampolines? Assault courses for antelopes, a motor bike for a swan that can take off when they spread their wings? We’ve seen rapping along to log drum kits, transparent houses full of fun, Sponge-bob Square-pants immortalised in clay, what will they think up next?
Principle 3: Forest School aims to promote the holistic development of all those involved, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.
