This week, Year 6 had an exciting opportunity to visit Gateshead Library and the Shipley Art Galley to view art exhibitions. The artist, Leanne Pearce, was exhibiting some of her portraits – including the ones from the school foyer, and invited the children to come and see them.
During the visit, children were able to ask Leanne questions about how and why she became an artist and see the possibilities for them in future if this was an avenue that interested them. They also had a workshop where they learned a technique for overlaying a portrait with detail and text – something Mr Allen is keen to try out next year. Two of the pupils were also lucky enough to be interviewed for a short film about the arts in Gateshead. All in all, it was an inspiring and interesting visit.
