To mark Armistice Day this year at Harlow Green, the Year 6 children led assemblies for both Key Stage One and Key Stage Two children.
In the assemblies, the Year 6 children shared some information about remembrance, read poems and sang song related to war. At 11 o’clock, the school fell silent in a period of remembrance.
Our school’s head boy and head girl and the Year 6 Rights Respects officers also attended Low Fell’s Remembrance Service which was held at The Boer War Memorial. The Mayor of Gateshead, ex-service men, members of the military, members of the emergency services, community members and children from schools in our area attended the service to pay their respects to those who fought for their country and those who serve today. The children wrote a message of remembrance and laid their wreath at the war memorial to represent our school community. It was a poignant service, and our children represented us with respect and pride.
We will remember them.
