Making Morse Code Transmitters

Over the last two weeks, in DT, the children in Year 6 have made a working Morse Code transmitter.

Firstly, they had to find out what a Morse Code transmitter did. After this, they designed their product. The children remembered how to create a circuit using their knowledge from Science and applied this knowledge to design a switch. They also used their maths knowledge to draw nets for the outer casing. When it came to making the product, the children learnt that care needed to be taken with the dimensions of the nets and also joining the product together. Great fun was had with the working Morse code transmitters and their buzzing. The process ended with the children evaluating their products; a useful way for the children to consider how they might improve the design if they were to make it again.
