Dogs Trust Workshops

This week, classes from Reception to 6 have enjoyed an assembly and a classroom workshop with Rachel and Ted from The Dogs Trust.

The workshops vary in each year group and support the children in understanding how to be safe around their own dogs, dogs that belong to others and what they should do if they meet dogs outside such as when playing or shopping.

The children were taught how to ask the owners if they can approach their dogs, say hello to the dogs, how to stroke them carefully and what to do if they want a dog to move away.  Rachel talked to the children about the skills that dogs have, how they too have likes and dislikes and the choices they make.

With over 12 million dogs now in the UK, most of children in school said they owned or visited a house where someone owned a dog.  Cuddly Ted accompanied Rachel throughout school dogs.
