In Reception this week, we have been learning about the Hindu festival, Holi. The children learned that Holi celebrates the beginning of spring. Some Hindus celebrate by planting and growing flowers, making traditional Indian sweets and joining in with the celebration of throwing colourful powders at each other. In our classroom, the children took part in activities related to Holi. In the sand area, the children made Rangoli patterns, we used powder paints to mix colours and create paintings of flowers, we had sweet making in the playdough area and we had a go at traditional Indian folk dancing during PE. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about a festival from another culture and they have begun to look for signs of spring around their local area.
