The children in Year 1 have enjoyed building their knowledge of different aspects of measurement. They began by thinking about tallest and shortest. They enjoyed placing themselves in order of their height. One pupil was chosen to draw around and their height was measured using objects found in the classroom. The children have enjoyed comparing the length of items and measuring length using cubes. They were introduced to what a centimetre was and they used a ruler to measure strips of coloured paper. Everyone had the opportunity to use the balance scales to find the mass of objects such as a felt pen or pair of scissors. Finally, the children were interested to find out about the capacity of different containers. They counted how many cubes could fit inside different objects used vocabulary such as full, half full and empty.
