This week in Year 1 we took advantage of nature to create some placement art.
In class the children were asked; Can you create a repeating pattern using natural materials? This lead to a lively discussion around sorting, what different characteristics you may find in nature and how that may inform how you select materials. We looked at the many repeating patterns found all around us in our plant and animal life, then set off with collecting bags to see what they could find.
Back in class the children arranged their finds into, sometimes quite complex, repeating patterns. we reflected on our work then used the same materials to convert the arrangement onto an animal design, with some very creative results
