Text – non-chronological report: Mars
Comprehension
Grammar focus – subordinating and co-ordinating conjunctions
In a non-chronological report, it can be easy to use the same sentence type over and over. To make it more interesting, and vary your sentence type, you should use a range of subordinating and co-ordinating conjunctions to join clauses together. You need to be able to identify which type is which, as well as use them both within your writing.

Writing task
Write a non-chronological report of your own. Your report should be about a planet in our solar system (not Mars!) Your non-chronological report will be non-fiction, and should include lots of factual information.
What I’m Looking For:
- A title and relevant subheadings (you can use the Mars reading comprehension to guide you, although they may differ based on which planet you choose!)
- An introductory paragraph giving basic information about your planet
- A table of numerical information about the planet
- A range sentences including both subordinating and co-ordinating conjunctions
- Pictures with appropriate captions
