English
In English, we will spend one day reading and comprehending a text; one day on spelling, one day on grammar, one day completing a short writing activity and one day focusing on Lexia.
Reading and Comprehension – The Zoo Vet
Share the story with your child. Then, discuss the questions from The Zoo Vet Comprehension. There is no need to record your child’s answers. However, if you wish to, a question and answer sheet is provided.
Spelling
Learn to spell: today, here, there, where, were, are, our. Play Spooky Spellings. Select Year 1, click book 4 and press go.
Writing Task
Read The Zoo Vet. The zoo vet looks after lots of animals, including a giraffe and a flamingo. Draw a picture of your favourite zoo animal. Then, using the word mats provided, write a sentence to explain why your chosen animal is your favourite.
If you are unable to print the worksheet, you can complete the activity on a piece of paper.

Reading and Phonics
Children should spend 20 minutes at least three times per week using Lexia. Children should take part in phonics and spelling daily (see Ruth Miskin YouTube Videos).
A Hold a Sentence video is now also available on the Ruth Miskin YouTube Channel. There are two sentences to choose from. If your child is learning set 2 sounds, please choose Hold a Sentence 1. If your child is learning set 3 sounds, please choose Hold a Sentence 2. We recommend that you complete this activity twice a week.

Topic – Place Value to 50 and 100
- To count to 50
- To identify how many tens and ones are in a number
