Reading

Children should spend 20 minutes at least three times per week using Reading Plus.

Maths

In Maths, we will spend a week focusing on a particular topic, eg. shape or place value. Activities will then be set on Mathletics that are based upon this subject.

Topic – Measurement – Money!

This week we will apply some of the decimals work into the context of money.  Hopefully over the last few weeks with decimals the children have had the chance to talk about money, have a look at some coins and see how ones (pounds / £), tenths (10p) and hundredths (1p) fit into the context of money.

Resources to help:

This week we go back to largely using White Rose videos and activities, but I will add a further piece of work that might help where children are finding some of the jumps or work in the White Rose activities tricky.  There are some Mathletics activities but with most having completed the decimal work already, there is a mixed of times tables, some halving and decimal revision.

There is a place value chart that the children have used in school before attached as a link below if you want to print it off or put it on screen to help – this is always useful when working with decimals and money.

Monday

Understanding Money.

My Shop – the children and parents / carers are advised to set up a mini shop for the week.  Think about things that the shop could have such as treats like crisps, ice lolly, a DVD etc.  Add prices to these.  Then – the best bit – think about how the children will need to earn that money!  Will you allocate a daily value such as £1 (so children you need to think carefully about how you spend that money), or will you be able to earn extra ££s by helping at home or doing some jobs, for example a bonus 20p for setting the table or helping dry the dishes.
