Bringing children to school and collecting them at the end of the day is the main aspect that parents/carers are involved with in relation to how the day is managed under the new systems. The following information is intended to help clarify how procedures will work across each year group (for Nursery information please visit the Nursery page for specific details click here).
There is no longer a one-way system; this is to avoid a bottle neck with so many people on site. Adults can enter/exit either external gate but must give others appropriate space throughout and should minimise the time on the site (not use the site as a time for socialising with other parents/carers).
To be as safe as possible, please try to follow two main principles: Keep Left and Keep Your Distance.
In line with current national guidance, we would encourage adults on site to wear face masks. Anyone wearing a mask when collecting their child must lower their mask so that the teacher can identify them.

How do I drop off in the morning?
- Only one adult should come onto site when dropping-off.
- All children in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 will be encouraged to come onto the school site themselves, from 8.45am, with adults being able to leave them at the main gates.
- Children from Reception to Year 6 will all come in on a ‘soft drop’ between 8.45am and 9.00am.
- Adults/children should not queue before the doors are opened. Everyone should simply come from 8.45am and the doors will be open for children to quickly enter the building, allowing adults to leave the site swiftly.
- Doors will close at 9.00am to allow registration to start. Any child arriving after 9.00am will be marked as late.
- Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are to be dropped-off at their classrooms.
- Years 3 & 4 are to enter the building via the front of the school – Lamesley Entrance – to the left of the office entrance.
- Years 5 & 6 children must enter the school at the normal door via the yard.
How do I collect at the end of the day?
Rather than create a long, staggered exit period, we will be aiming to reduce the number of people waiting in one area. This means that there are now different collection areas for different year groups.
This is a key period for the school as it is the largest gathering on the site. In order for this to work safely for all, it will rely on the co-operation and understanding of parents/carers. It is essential that this time is not used for socialising. Adults must leave the site with their children as soon as they have collected.
Only one adult should come onto site when collecting children.
There are now two end times to support dismissing of children:
- Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 now finish at 3.15pm.
- Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 all finish at 3.20pm.
Parents/carers who collect at 3.15pm and do not have any other children should leave the site with their child as quickly as possible. This will reduce the number of people on site significantly.
What about collecting more than one child?
If another child is to be collected, the parent/carer should move to the next collection point, as safely as possible, and wait until their child is dismissed by their teacher.
Where are the Collection Points?
- Miss Nelson’s Reception class will be dismissed from their class.
- Miss Bradshaw’s Reception class will be dismissed from the hall door.
- Year 1 and Year 2 classes will be dismissed from their classroom doors.
- Year 3 and Year 4 will be dismissed at the front of the school from the Lamesley door.
- Year 5 and Year 6 will be dismissed from the MUGA.
Year 3 & 4:
We will be installing rubber matting over the grass at the front of the school on which parents will stand when waiting to collect. This will prevent getting muddy as the weather worsens. We will evaluate whether a more permanent solution will be required depending on how the system works.
We will dismiss both Year 3 classes first followed by Year 4.
Year 5 & 6:
- Parents/carers who are collecting Year 5 & 6 children should enter the MUGA via one of the new gates at either. They should then wait in the area designated for their child’s class (see signs).
- The teachers will bring their children to the MUGA through the middle gate and all children will wait in their designated area until the teacher has dismissed them (including children going home themselves).
- Come children in Year 5 & 6 may go home themselves. For this to be the case, parents should provide permission.
