This week, Year 5 have been excited to start learning all about our English book for this half term: ‘Beowulf’ by Michael Morpurgo. The week started with a clue by clue reveal, giving several hints to the children as to what the book might be about. They had all sorts of ideas, from Viking invasions to terrifying monsters – it was lovely to see their imaginations running wild!
After learning about the basic plot of the book, we delved deeper into the characters, with a focus on the fiendish beast Grendel. The children thought about the questions they might ask him, and then – using their inference skills – they answered in character. ‘Beowulf’ has definitely got Year 5 talking, and we look forward to learning more about it in the weeks to come!
