As part of our Remembrance events this year, all the children across school have helped create poems about the poppy and Home – learning about the way World War 2 evacuees left their homes and moved out in the countryside, unable to see their families and loved ones, some for up to 6 years. This work was in conjunction with the Royal British Legion who created the lesson plans, poem templates and materials.
The children helped write poems as a class, in groups or individually and you’ll find examples below. This is a tiny example of all the amazingly poignant and emotional poems written across school.
The children will also have a class assembly about Remembrance and the significance of the poppy.
This year has been made even poignant with Home as the focus with many families also unable to see their loved ones as easily or as often as they usually do. You can watch the Royal British Legion Every Poppy Counts TV campaign below.
