In year 4 Geography, the children have explored how the world is divided into different zones. They identified the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, the Equator and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. Using these lines of latitude, they were able to describe where the continents of the world were located. They then learnt about the different climate zones of the world, coloured these on a map and key, and described their characteristics. Using their knowledge of the conditions found within each climate zone, the children were then able to explain why certain biomes exist within the different climate zones. They used symbols to represent the different biomes on their coloured map. The focus then zoned in on Europe and the countries within it, and the children loved sharing their own experiences about the European countries they had visited. Finally, the focus closed in on comparing two countries within Europe: Greece and the UK. Applying their knowledge of physical and human features, the children were able to discuss why there were many differences between these countries.
